Oral Surgery FAQ

Oral Surgery FAQ

What symptoms and procedures does oral surgery cover?

The main procedures in our oral surgery department are extracting wisdom teeth and removing teeth buried in the gum (impacted teeth). We first assess your condition with an examination, carefully explain the need for treatment and the risks, and then decide whether treatment is necessary. Rather than extracting teeth without good reason, we set an appropriate plan for each patient.

Does a wisdom tooth always need to be extracted?

Not always.
We evaluate your symptoms, the tooth’s position, how easy it is to clean, and the future risk overall, and decide whether extraction is needed after an examination. We value a “no pain, no drilling, no extraction” approach and don’t intervene more than necessary. In some cases, watching how it develops is the right approach.

What’s the flow for a first visit, the cost, and what should I bring?

All visits are by appointment, and we proceed in the order medical interview → examination → an X-ray or other tests if needed → explanation and plan.
The first-visit fee is about 4,000 yen (an estimate for 30% co-payment). Please bring your health insurance card. Online booking is available, and emergency patients are seen by arrangement (please call us first).

I’m worried about pain during extraction and swelling afterward.

We follow a “no pain, no drilling, no extraction” policy and carefully explain your situation and the approach before any procedure.
You may have temporary swelling, bleeding, or discomfort afterward, but this usually eases over time. Please contact us right away if symptoms are severe or last a long time. We accept emergency patients at any time.

How do you handle difficult cases, such as teeth close to a nerve or older patients?

We prioritize safety above all, taking into account imaging findings and your overall health.
If a case is judged to be especially difficult, we consider referring you to a specialist institution such as a university or general hospital. It’s important not to raise the risk of complications by forcing an extraction.

Is there anything I should know before my visit?

Please be sure to tell us about any medications you’re taking, your medical history, and any allergies at your first visit.
Since we’re appointment-based, please arrive about 15 minutes before your appointment. If you have severe pain or another urgent situation, call us and tell us what’s going on, and we’ll advise you on how to be seen the same day.

Can I visit between work? What are the hours and access like?

We’re open weekdays 10:00–14:00, 15:00–19:00, with last appointment accepted up to 1 hour before the end of each session.
It’s an easy location to visit — a 1-minute walk from Toranomon Hills Station and a 6-minute walk from Toranomon Station.
You can book through our 24-hour online booking or by phone.

What payment methods are available? Can I pay in installments?

We accept cash, major credit cards, e-money, and PayPay.
For non-insured treatment, we can also offer a dental loan plan, letting you choose a payment method that keeps your monthly cost down. Please ask the front desk for details.

What happens if I leave a wisdom tooth untreated?

Poor cleaning and bite problems can lead to cavities, gum inflammation, and trouble with the neighboring tooth. Extraction also tends to become more of a burden as you get older. We recommend having it objectively assessed at a regular checkup and deciding on a plan while you’re not in pain.

Can I request or change my dentist?

We have multiple dentists on staff, and we can change your dentist or let you request one (please feel free to tell us what you’d prefer).
Writing down your questions beforehand makes it easier to resolve any concerns during your appointment.
Please start by talking with us in a counseling session.
